What is a Toy (or Mini) Schnauzer?

First, Toy Schnauzers are not really toys like a stuffed animal! We need lots of care, food, water, grooming, training, and love. But you knew that already!

Like all types of Schnauzers, Toy Schnauzers are hypoallergenic, don’t shed, and we are super smart, so we love to learn. All Schnauzers make great family pets because they are good with children, other pets, are easy to train, and they are not aggressive but will be protective of family members when needed. These are a few of the reasons why the schnauzer breed consistently scores very high on the best dogs for families and people with multiple animals.

Miniature Schnauzers were originally bred in Germany to be fearless ratters. Toy Schnauzers are bred to be home and family oriented. We make great alert dogs because we will let you know when someone is at the front door or in the back yard and then we will cuddle in your lap.

Some say we have a great sense of humor because we love to entertain our family. Toy Schnauzers can be silly and amusing loving to learn tricks.

At SVCC Toys Schnauzers our breeding dogs are all AKC Registered Miniature Schnauzers. When a Schnauzer is smaller than the standard, we are called “Toy Schnauzers.” Some Schnauzer breeders will say there is no such thing as a “Toy Schnauzer,” but we can show our Embark DNA tests that reveal we are 100% Miniature Schnauzers even though we are smaller than the traditional standard.
